Everything You Need To Know About Daxxify

Until now, Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport have been the go-to anti-wrinkle injections. A new alternative called Daxxify has entered the neurotoxin market, and we’re pleased to offer it as part of our cosmetic injectable portfolio here at 450Derm.

Daxxify® is the most recent neuromodulator approved by the FDA for use in treating dynamic expression that causes wrinkles. Daxxify differs from other injectables like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin, because of its unique peptide exchange technology that boasts longer-lasting results than its competitors. In today’s blog, we’re reviewing everything you need to know about Daxxify to help you decide if the product is right for you.

What is Daxxify?

The recent introduction of Daxxify has created new buzz and excitement in dermatology and plastic surgery circles. Unlike traditional neurotoxins, Daxxify offers a longer-lasting alternative for those who desire smoother and more refreshed expressions at the eyebrows and forehead. Currently FDA-approved to treat moderate to severe glabellar lines, Daxxify is clinically validated and approved for safe use.

Daxxify is designed to treat wrinkles caused by dynamic expression, specifically moderate to severe glabellar lines (11s between the eyebrows). Daxxify has proven effective in combating wrinkles and achieving smoother, younger-looking skin.

Daxxify’s Peptide Exchange Technology

The secret behind Daxxify’s long-lasting properties is its “peptide exchange technology” (PXT) which does not include any animal or human by-products. Instead, this proprietary formula allows the product to better adhere to receptors in the body, increasing the amount of time the product will last after being injected.

As with any cosmetic injectable,  it’s important to review your medical history with your board-certified dermatologist prior to determining if Daxxify is right for you.

Benefits of Daxxify

96% satisfaction rate among patients who were treated with Daxxify

Patients using Daxxify for wrinkle correction are averaging an efficacy of 3-6 months, making it a very welcome alternative for patients who don’t have the luxury of time for re-treatment and maintenance appointments.

In addition to its extended duration of results for wrinkle reduction at the glabella, Daxxify can be used in tandem with other cosmetic injectables like Juvederm and Restylane, making it ideal for procedures like a non-surgical brow lift and non-surgical facelift.

Side Effects of Daxxify

The clinical trials for Daxxify showed minimal side effects. According to the independent research done by Revance Aesthetics, the most common side effects were:

  • headaches (6%),
  • drooping eyelids (2%),
  • and facial asymmetry (1%)

These reported side effects are very mild compared to some of the more serious risks associated with other types of aesthetic treatments like Botox injections. The lower risks associated with Daxxify can be attributed to its smaller quantities of product. As such, Daxxify provides patients with a safe alternative that is just as effective as Botox, Dysport and Xeomin.

Longer-lasting results than Botox

before and after Daxxify treatment, Dr. Dave MacGregor

Patients are noticing improved efficacy compared to average neurotoxins on the market today. Most men and women can expect to see the effects of Daxxify within a few days after its injection with longevity up to 3 months. However, based on clinical trials, users may experience the effects of this product for six months or longer.

Botox and Daxxify are both effective non-surgical treatments for frown lines and glabellar lines. However, the two differ in terms of duration of action. While Botox typically lasts up to three to four months, Daxxify can offer visible results for up to six months depending on individual cases. Therefore, Daxxify may be a better choice for those who don’t have time to come in often for repeat treatments.

Different Types of Treatments with Daxxify

Again, Daxxify is currently FDA-approved for glabellar lines only. That said, some providers are using Daxxify to reduce the intensity of jaw clenching and to accomplish facial slimming. Beyond its use for wrinkle prevention, Daxxify shares further applications with Botulinum toxin for the treatment of excessive sweating and migraines. Compared to other injectables on the market that can cause potential side effects such as allergic reactions, there were no major side effects recorded when using Daxxify.

Who Is A Good Daxxify Patient?

Daxxify is probably best for patients who have had experience with Botox or Dysport over several treatment sessions.  It would be best to start with a shorter acting neurotoxin like Botox or Dysport first and then switch to Daxxify.  It is also advisable to start with just treating the glabella (“11s”) for starters too.
